Rarotonga International Airport is the main international gateway to the Cook Islands. A visitor permit is issued on arrival when the current entry requirements are met, and travellers clear immigration and customs before entering the public arrivals area.
Current official Tourism guidance says taxis and transfers are available outside the terminal and recommends pre-booking. Rental vehicles can be collected at the airport if arranged in advance, while the clockwise and anti-clockwise public buses operate around the island.
Cook Islands Tourism currently notes an ATM outside the arrivals hall and offers 60 minutes of free airport Wi-Fi via the Vodafone hotspot. Vodafone also sells Cook Islands travel SIM/eSIM options, which can be useful if you want data immediately.
The Airport Authority currently advises travellers to check live flight status on their airline's website or through a flight-tracker service. Confirm again on the day of travel, especially during disruption or weather changes.
Vodafone Cook Islands offers Travel SIM and eSIM options. A physical SIM is available at the airport outlet near arrivals, while the eSIM can be arranged before you fly. If you keep your home SIM, check your provider's Cook Islands roaming rates first.
Airline check-in requirements differ, so use your airline's instructions rather than a generic airport rule. Build enough time for vehicle return, check-in and security, particularly on busy international departure days.
